SCALING AND ROOT PLANING

Scaling and root planing is a non surgical, least invasive and most cost effective therapy to treat individuals suffering from mild gum disease (gingivitis). The objective of this treatment is to remove the etiologic factors that cause the gum disease. The most common etiologic factors being plaque and calculus (tartar). This treatment is usually conducted in the course of routine professional cleaning, wherein root planning usually accompanies scaling. Plaque is removed from the area above the gums.Tartar and bacterial toxins are removed from the area beneath the gums and tooth root is smoothed down for good healing of the gum tissue. Many individuals suffering from mild form of gum disease might not require any further active treatment except a good maintenance therapy. However when it does not achieve good periodontal health, Laser curettage or Gum Surgery may be indicated.

PERIODONTAL (GUM) SURGERY

Flap surgery or Pocket reduction Surgery

During the procedure , the gums are gently pulled back.The bacteria and tartar is cleared from the area completely, followed by scaling and root planing before reattaching the gums back with tiny stiches, left in place for about a week. There will be a significant reduction in the pocket depth after the procedure. REGENERATIVE PROCEDURES

Bone Grafting

During gum disease, the supporting tissue and the bone around the tooth are lost. Eventually, if too much bone is lost, its hold on the tooth will reduce thereby leading to tooth loss.
